Know what you owe. Before you pay.

GST split by state on every invoice, TDS and reverse-charge GST worked out on bills like rent, and GSTINs checked as you type.

WORKED OUT ON EVERY ENTRY

The tax, the deduction, the deposit. All on the entry.

Each bill and invoice carries its own statutory picture - what was charged, what was withheld, what is owed and what came back - so nothing has to be reconstructed at filing time.

  • The right GST split

Place of supply comes from your customer's state unless you change it, and the GST split follows.

  • TDS on the right section

Section and rate come from the vendor or category, adjusted for a missing PAN or lower-rate certificate.

  • Reverse charge on rent

For regular GST filers, rent from an unregistered landlord adds 18% reverse-charge GST and its credit.

  • Deposits on record

Record deductions on the payment, then mark each deposited with its date and challan or return reference.

  • GSTINs checked on invoices too

On invoices, a customer's GSTIN is checked as you type, and a valid one fills in their state if empty.

  • Gaps flagged for your CA

IGST from a same-state supplier, or a TDS bill from a vendor with no PAN, goes to your CA's review list.

SEE IT IN ACTION

One rent bill. Every rupee accounted for.

HOW IT WORKS

From a bill to a deposited challan.

  1. Pick a customer and the tax becomes CGST + SGST or IGST, from your state and the place of supply on their GSTIN.

    Place of supply
    • Zorba Cafe · MumbaiIntra-state · CGST + SGST
    • Acme Retail LLP · BengaluruInter-state · IGST
    • Tax on ₹36,000 at 18%₹6,480

Your state and the customer's GSTIN decide the split.

  2. A bill like rent shows the TDS to withhold and any reverse-charge GST, with the input credit that comes back.

    Prakash Estates · office rent
    • Billed by the landlord₹60,000
    • TDS 194-I(b) · 10%−₹6,000
    • Reverse charge GST · 18%+₹10,800
    • Input credit on the ₹10,800ITC eligible

The landlord is paid ₹54,000; the government ₹16,800 in all.

  3. One click keeps the TDS and reverse-charge GST on the entry, with the sections that apply, as owed to the government.

    Record deductions
    • TDS ₹6,000 withheld from this paymentRecorded
    • Reverse-charge GST ₹10,800 owedRecorded
    • Owed to the government₹16,800

One click keeps both on the entry, with the sections that apply.

  4. Paid the government? Mark it deposited with the challan number and date, right on the deduction.

    Mark deposited
    • TDS 194-I(b)₹6,000
    • Challan02026071234567
    • Deposited 07 Jul 2026Done

The challan number and date stay with the deduction.

  5. A wrong check character is flagged as you type. From a valid GSTIN the PAN, state and entity type are read for you.

PAN, state and entity type are read from a valid GSTIN.

GST FOLLOWS THE STATE

Pick the customer. The split picks itself.

An invoice to a customer in your state carries CGST and SGST. Pick a customer in another state and the same invoice flips to IGST - the place of supply comes from their GSTIN, and the tax rows, totals and the chip in the top bar update together.

  • Intra-state: CGST + SGST, each half the rate
  • Inter-state: a single IGST line at the full rate
  • The place of supply read from the customer's GSTIN

TDS AND REVERSE CHARGE

Rent is more than one payment.

Office rent from an unregistered landlord carries TDS under section 194-I(b) and GST under reverse charge. KhataPilot lays both out on the entry: what the landlord receives, what goes to the government, and what comes back as input credit.

  • TDS withheld from the payment, at the section's rate
  • Reverse-charge GST added and recorded as owed
  • Input credit on the reverse charge shown straight away

DEPOSITS, DEFAULTS AND GAPS

What's owed, what's deposited, and what's missing.

Deductions sit under 'Owed to the government' until you mark them deposited with the challan. Categories carry their own ITC rule and Tally ledger. And anything a filing would stumble on is flagged for your CA.

RENT, LINE BY LINE

  • Billed by the landlord: ₹60,000

GOOD QUESTIONS. CLEAR ANSWERS.

About
GST, TDS & reverse charge.

A few things to know before you start.

See all features
Does KhataPilot file my GST or TDS returns?

No. KhataPilot works out the amounts and records them when you say so. You mark each one deposited once paid. Filing stays with you or your CA, who can export entries as CSV, XLSX or Tally XML from the CA portal.

Is TDS worked out on every bill?

Only on bills whose vendor or category has a TDS section, once the payee's total for the month or tax year crosses the section's threshold - until then the entry says no TDS yet. Without a PAN, the no-PAN rate (usually 20%) applies and the entry says why.

Which reverse charge cases are covered?

If you file GST as a regular taxpayer, KhataPilot works out reverse charge on rent from an unregistered landlord at 18%, along with the input credit. Other cases, like import of services, are flagged for review rather than calculated.

Are TDS and reverse charge recorded without me?

No. TDS and reverse charge are quoted on the entry, and nothing is recorded until you click Record deductions. A deduction that was never actually made would throw off the vendor's balance, so the decision stays yours.

How does KhataPilot decide between CGST + SGST and IGST?

From your state and the place of supply. A customer in your own state gets CGST + SGST; one in another state gets IGST. The place of supply comes from the customer's GSTIN, so the chip on the invoice flips the moment you pick them.

What is reverse charge, and when does it apply?

When you buy from an unregistered supplier - office rent from an unregistered landlord is the common case - you pay the GST to the government instead of the supplier. KhataPilot adds it to the entry, records it as owed, and shows the input credit that comes back.
